Comic/Graphic Novel Free-Lance Artist Wanted

Postby manyeyeshere » Sun Feb 21, 2010 2:19 am

Hello,

I have written a draft of an independant comic that will run for five issues. There is no plan for professional publishing and the rights will remain those of the author and artist.

I hope to sell the comic at local Comic-cons around Sydney, primarily Supanova, and local comic-book stores. Eg. Kings Comics (Townhall) and The Comic Shop (Liverpool).

The comic is dystopian dark fantasy. The story contains high adult themes and references of violence, idelologies, sexual references and drug abuse.

The target market is fans of the Vertigo label by DC Comics or such comic-scripters as Neil Gaiman, Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis, Frank Miller and Michael Joseph Linser.
Or series such as The Sandman, Preacher, Hellblazer, Transmetropolitian, Sin City or Dawn.

The comic will be self-published and printed on order demand. I am hoping to find an artist and finish the project by June for Sydney Supanova to gain fans and publicity. If the project goes ahead I am hoping to open a Word-Press account for the comic and a Deviantart page deicated to the comic.

The medium of the art will be left to the Artists' choice.

It is preferred if the anyone considering lives in Sydney or frequent progress and discussion meetings on progress and ideas.

If anyone is interested please email me with a link to your work/website and I will send a copy of the manuscript.

Regards,
Michelle

Hi,
Don't be disheartened by this, but you may find it difficult to find an artist to illustrate your graphic novels. Most cartoonists are pretty good writers and don't like to share the (already slim) profits. The sad truth is that while a script for a comic book may take a week or two from inception to finished script, the illustration for a 32 pager graphic novel will mean an investment of maybe 3 - 4 months solid work for the illustrator. The artist will have to be truly inspired by your vision to invest that disproportionate amount of time on a project which is not their own.

As you are going to uni, why not go and see some of the students who are studying graphic design or fine art (if that's available where you go to uni.) It will probably be easier to find a collaborator in that environment than here.
Firing someone up with enthusiasm for your project is better done in person than online, I reckon.
